    Summary:

Flatbrook Farm has been a sustainable producer of beef, pork and poultry for many years. In 2014 Steven Hendershot and William Brophy joined the farm to begin the garden and start growing a diverse assortment of naturally grown salad greens, vegetables, herbs, and fruit. We both graduated from Rutgers University with degrees in Agriculture and couldn’t be happier to be a part of the local and natural food movement here in our home state! In 2015 the Flatbrook Farm CSA was started with 20 weekly members. Flatbrook Farm’s roadside stand on Route 206 is open Fridays 12-5; Saturdays and Sundays from 10-5 (check the website or call for seasonal changes)

    Details:

All Flatbrook Farm produce is non GMO, and produced without any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or preservatives. Two types of weekly CSA shares: Every Friday from June 3rd through November 18th.

Basic share - $500. Focuses on salad ingredients and a few staple cooking vegetables per week. Suitable for an individual or couple to make a few meals per week. ($500/ 25 weeks = $20 per week)

Expanded share - $700 basic share plus more variety and specialty produce.  ($700/ 25 weeks = $28 per week)

Example:  Expanded share could include carrots and beets, while the basic share would rotate between the two.

Flatbrook Farm CSA runs every Friday from June 3rd through November 18th.

CSA shares can be picked up at the farm between 2:00-7:00pm. A drop-off location for at least 10 members can be arranged for delivery.

The Flatbrook Farm CSA focuses on providing lettuce and basic salad ingredients throughout the entire season. In addition we also grow many cooking greens, roots, fruits, and herbs.

Spring - Lettuce, arugula, radishes, turnips, scallions, sugar snap peas, kale, swiss chard, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cilantro, dill

Summer - Lettuce, carrots, beets, cucumbers, tomato, bell pepper, eggplant, onions, green beans, basil, parsley, garlic, celery, squash.

Fall- Lettuce, arugula, carrots, beets, radishes, tomato, bell pepper, eggplant, rutabaga, potato, onion, garlic, winter squash, kale, swiss chard, spinach, cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli, leeks, sweet potato.

Flatbrook Farm CSA is a season long commitment and unfortunately refunds cannot be made. Arrange to have a friend pick up a share if you are unable.

The farm is proud to produce everything provided in the CSA shares without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.

    Summary:

Our farm was established in 2001. We started with chickens and a few ducks. We experimented with many kinds of different animals on our farm and stayed with the following: Seasonal(pigs, ducks,  broilers and turkeys). Year round (chickens and rabbits), I started a small egg CSA last year (three members) I would like to add  more members and some meats to it this year.

    Details:

CSA deliverables will include eggs and two kinds of meats, chicken and pork. If members wants to buy rabbit or turkey, they can buy this separately.

This will be a year round package, summer and winter. Since we are in the middle of winter now, we can do a part time winter CSA. I will send you a separate email about the two seasons and the choices available and the costs involved.

Members are welcome to tour the farm (I prefer a certain day and a group at a time).

Return policy:  Refund only if I am not able to provide the products listed in my packages. Mother nature has her own way of dealing with us here on the farm, predators, storms etc.

If a member failed to get their monthly pick-up without an excuse, no refund. A courtesy call is all it takes to save both of us time and labor.

Everything that we will offer in these packages, will be raised or grow on our farm. Nothing from other farmers. I can only answer questions about how I raise or grow stuff on my farm. Beginning January  - November  2016

I am taking intensive herb course in Warwick NY. Growing medical and kitchen herbs here on the farm, will be new for is, and very exciting. Members are welcome to ask me about that.

All our animals are raised outside on pasture on a non gmo grain ration, spring through fall, they also have access to beneficial weeds, herbs and will chase bugs down from a distance. They roam free inside a big electric fence perimeter to protect them against ground predators. We move this fence and their housing units to new pasture when needed.

    Summary:

I have been farming for 20 years including 7 seasons as a farm manager. This will be my 14th season operating a CSA program.  I began in 2003 with 40 members in Montclair. In 2015 we serviced over 700 members at 12 different sites. I rent 50 acres of land in Andover and Allamuchy and in 2013 I purchased an 80 acre farm in Andover, adjacent to my rented fields.

We grow a wide variety of vegetables and fruits with an emphasis on heirloom and unusual varieties. We endeavor to provide a wide variety of vegetable types in each weeks share. A green, a root vegetable, a legume (peas, beans), lettuce, an allium (onion, garlic, leeks, etc.), a brassica (broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower) and an herb are included in the share almost every week.  We have summer squash and or cucumbers through most of the summer and winter squash beginning in October.  Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant are a large part of the share from late July until early October.  We grow delicious varieties of potatoes that you will not find in the supermarket including fingerling and blue varieties; available from July until the end of the season. Sweet potatoes (3 varieties) are featured in the shares in October and November. In August we have amazing melons and watermelons. We grow everything that goes into the CSA shares- no exceptions. We are USDA certified organic.

We offer a 24 week season beginning in early June and ending the week before Thanksgiving. Pickup at the farm in Andover is on Fridays from 9 am to 8 pm. We will accommodate occasional deviations from this schedule. The cost for the 2016 season will be $625.

The farm hosts a farm visit/ potluck picnic in early June and a harvest festival in October. We also have about a dozen volunteer days during the course of the season, when members are invited to help with covering greenhouses and harvesting crops such as peas, beans, garlic and onions.

Refund policy: We offer a full refund before the start of the season for extenuating circumstances such as an unplanned move or an unexpected loss of income. No refunds are given after the start of the season. You are welcome to find someone to “buy out” your share if need be.

Website: We will have a website up at circlebrookfarm.com very soon (before March). In the meantime my weekly farm updates from previous seasons can be found archived on several sites administered my off farm groups.  downtownharvest.org    westfieldareacsa.org      bloomfield_montclaircsa.org

Each update contains a list of what was in the share for that week.

We use bio-dynamic principles of gardening and are all-natural. We are all about the importance of local community and supporting each other!

Details:        Our garden plots are 15 x 30, on a beautiful 20 acre farm with a gorgeous view and peaceful atmosphere. Our gardeners pay$200 for the entire year, which covers the plot, compost and manure, use of our tools, gardening instruction and "how-to" emails on growing the foods needed for self-sufficiency. People age 55 and above, as well as veterans, pay only $175.

The Community Garden is open sun-up to sun-down daily, and gardeners can come grow and harvest during those times.

Our gardeners grow any types of produce they enjoy eating and sharing, including protein sources such as dried beans and peanuts, and fun practical items like loofah sponge.

    VOODOO FARM

Location: 3 Timothy Lane, Hardwick, NJ 07825

    Contact: Cybele Ritterband; voodoochickenfarm@gmail.com; 908-362-9842

    Summary:

We are a sustainable chicken farm in the hills of Northern New Jersey.  We believe that ethically treating the animal and the soils leads to delicious, clean, healthy, affordable food.  We specialize in the American Bresse as well as traditional meat and egg layer breeds.  We are a husband and wife operation (with four children) and take care of  the chickens from egg to when we process them for meat.  We also strongly feel that processing them ourselves ensures humane treatment, quality control and most of all care of the animal we have raised.  We started a CSA for the first time last year offering a chicken only CSA (which is available year round) and also pairing with a friend of ours who raises a few beef cows every year.  We have fifteen members right now, but are adding new members  every month!

December through February, we will be offering the following CSA. Monthly payment at pickup or drop off.  Eggs added when available.

We will resume a new menu of shares, some with beef in March.

Chicken Only $50 a share monthly this is a YEAR ROUND share
    2 whole chickens (3-6 lbs)
2 lbs breast meat (2 cutlets)
2 lbs legs and thighs (2ea)

Chicken and Beef $50 a share monthly SOLD OUT
    1 whole chicken
    2 lbs ground beef
1 lb beef cubes (sold out) will substitute beef shin or short ribs!
2 lbs chicken breast (four cutlets)
1 lb. Honey (sold out on honey shares this item will be replaced with another farm product)

Carnivore’s  Delight $88 monthly SOLD OUT
    1 whole chicken
2 lb of  steaks (porterhouse, t-bone,  sirloin)
1 roast (around 4.5lbs eye round, sirloin, rib)
    4  lbs chicken breast

CSA's can be picked up directly at the farm.  When they are ready we will contact you and you can arrange a time  convenient for you.  We have regular farm hours for walk in customers as well.

Chicken CSA's are available year round.  Additional CSA's open up with the change of seasons, ie: beef, vegetables, honey and other farm products.

CSA members are more than welcome to see the farm.  We do not allow CSA members to help at this time (though wow, that would be awesome).  We will be running a backyard chicken processing class that will be open to CSA members first in the summer.

We are a family of six and we started our farm with the complete and painful understanding of the price of good food.  We do not ask our members to pay in advance.  They sign up and payment for the month is expected at pick up/ delivery.  A lot of families budget from month to month to afford even reasonably priced ethically grown poultry.  Affording our meat should not be an exclusive privilege for the wealthy only.  If someone's circumstances change they can simply call up and ask to be removed from the CSA, no refund necessary.

We produce everything in our shares except for the beef.  We occasionally buy a live cow from Matt at Chamberlain Farm in Hope NJ which is taken to a separate butcher.
